Week 1
We just started reading A Lesson Before Dying this week. It is a very interesting book. So far i read about a young man named Jefferson who goes to jail because his two drunk friends killed a white store owner. This takes place in the early 1400s after the civil rights movement. Jefferson is "defended" in court by a teacher who calls him "hog" in front of everyone justifying his acts as an animal. Jefferson's nanny, Ms Emma, doesn't like this so she asks Mr Grant to go to the prison and make sure that Jefferson dies as a "man" and not as a "hog".

A hog is sentenced
Before civil rights movement
If you were black
You waited to die
A teacher is helping
Or at least trying
But he doesn’t care
If Jefferson is crying
Jefferson doesn’t want chicken
He wants his freedom
Ms Emma cries deeply
He doesn’t eat them.
His friends ran away
He decided to stay
His friends got death
He stayed for wealth
